This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the support of the Instituto Cervantes.
Our world is changing rapidly, and currently, this change has been accelerating and intensifying due to global issues that we must urgently address. In this context, the need to find new solutions is critical. We must do more than simply improve what already exists; we need to build a new reality.
It is becoming increasingly imperative to go beyond design concepts and understand the discipline as a dynamic agent of change, with the potential to influence our lives at various levels and in many different ways. We must see design as an underlying activity in all material and mental manifestations that we use for human well-being and development.
When we talk about design, we implicitly refer to adding value based on a series of identified needs. These needs seek solutions ranging from products to systems. Design is a discipline that addresses the economic, social, and environmental challenges we face.
As a people-centered and problem-solving discipline, design uses creative thinking to address the root of the problem within its broader context, focusing on tackling the cause rather than just the symptom.
For this project, 12 woman-designers from the contemporary Spanish scene have been selected. Their perspective on the world and the values they uphold and represent make their creative practice contribute to building a new, more sustainable and inclusive reality. Their artisanal processes, the materials they use, and their artistic discourse participate in a more human and engaged reality.
The exhibition is part of the 12th edition of Romanian Design Week, within its RDW Design Flags section, which will be held in the iconic Cina Space (formerly a famous interwar Bucharest restaurant). The local curation of the exhibition is overseen by architect Justin Baroncea.
Romanian Design Week, a project by The Institute, is the largest interdisciplinary event in Romania, a festival that promotes design, architecture, creativity, and innovation as tools for cultural, social, and economic growth.
Under the umbrella of Romanian Design Week, exhibitions and events are organized with the goal of making design accessible to a wide audience. Each year, more than 30,000 visitors attend RDW events.
